Garvey presents at Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists

Miranda Garvey, a fourth-year neuroscience major, presented “The Effects of Developmental Hearing Loss On Cognitive Flexibility using Reversal Learning in Gerbils” at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists in San Antonio, Texas. Garvey’s research focuses on individuals with developmental hearing loss showing reduced cognitive flexibility. Research showed that while gerbils could learn and adapt to changing rules, those with developmental hearing loss learned more slowly and performed worse than controls, suggesting early hearing loss may impair the ability to switch between mental tasks.
